Determination

Keifer's Aunt Trinity bought him two little stuffed animals to hold onto. Kefier LOVES grabbing things and holding onto things. So Trinity bought him a penguin and a duck that fits good in his little hands. Keifer seems to like his ducky better than the penguin because it is flatter so easier for him to grab onto since the penguin is round.

This afternoon I had Keifer laying on his bobby doing his tummy time. I had my phone out taking pictures to share his tummy time but then after just two pictures of his tummy time he did the cutest thing I've seen him do and now that I think about it, it was the first time I saw him to do this.....

After I took this picture of him doing his tummy time he just stared down at the bed and I couldn't get him to look back up at me to get pictures of him. I wasn't sure what he was looking at but something had him fixated that he was completely ignoring me. Then I saw him reaching his arm out. It looked like he was trying to grab for his penguin that was laying on the bed in front of him. I wasn't sure if that is what he was doing or just a coincidence that he was stretching out his arm. Luckily I already had the camera taking pictures so I was able to track his progress.

It was a success! Defiantly one of the cutest things I've seen him do. He is developing so fast and that is just one step closer to Keifer gaining his independence. Thanks Aunt Trin for the little stuffed dolls, he loves them!

When Good Babies Go Bad....

That is the title of an article that I read and it couldn't have been truer. Ever since Jason and I went to San Antonio Keifer's night schedule has been bad. I thought the first night in San Antonio was just a fluke from a different environment and would take a few days to get back to normal. Well after 2 weeks in a row of waking up every 30 minutes to a hour to give him his pacifier and eating at 12:00, 3:00 and 7:00 I knew something had to change. I tried everything I could think of and nothing was working. I even tried winging Keifer off his pacifier. I figured if he didn't have it then he can't wake up every 30 minutes to need it back. After 3 days of that I realized maybe 3 months is a little too young and not the answer. He was to the point where he could fall asleep at nap time without the pacifier but never at bedtime and that was when the problem was. Jason and I were both exhausted and I was so confused as to why "my good baby turned bad"  On August 19th exactly two weeks to the day we went to San Antonio I was up with Keifer at 7:00 feeding him. My eyes were burning from the long night before and I thought to myself something has to change! I knew there had to be an answer so I did what any new mom would do. I turned to my good friend Google. : ) I had no idea what I was looking for or even what to call it so I just typed into the search engine "how to make my 3 month old sleep without waking up for his pacifier" I will tell you I was so surprised at how much came up and I felt so good to know I was not the only one with this problem. The title When Good Babies Go Bad caught my eye and I clicked on it. It started with a list of.... does your baby sleep good for the first 4-5 hours of the night then wake up every 30 minutes to a hour after wards, does your baby wake up crying for the pacifier, do you have to rock your baby to make them go back to sleep, does your baby stay awake for 30-45 minutes in the middle of night before they go back to bed? The whole time I was reading this I kept saying yes, uh huh, yep, that's right, go on. I felt like she wrote the article just for me!!! Then she used the title Four Month Regression. I had never heard of this before but the article explained that this "Four Month Regression" could range anywhere between 3-5 months old. I won't go into the whole article because it was over 15 pages long. It just explained what causes this and how to fix it. That was the important thing! It was the best news I heard and I was glad that there was an answer for me to get Keifer sleeping through the night again. I was so excited that I immediately called Jason and told him what all I read and that we were changing things TODAY. After reading I decided to change Keifer's eating schedule. Instead of the 9-9 I changed it to 8-8 to put him to sleep earlier. At every nap that day I laid him down when he was still awake and let him fall asleep on his own. Which he did. I was surprised at how quickly he picked up on that. The first nap time he cried for 14 minutes before he fell asleep on his own. Every nap for the rest of the day he fell asleep in 5 minutes with no crying. I knew we were onto something and we were actually doing this! As you read before in Keifer's 3 month post he stayed awake for 4 hours at a time no problem. Well I changed that to putting him down for a nap no longer than being awake 2 hours at a time. He never acted tired when he stayed awake 4 hours but it was crucial for his nap times during the day to sleep good at night. I thought I will give this a week for him to get use to the new schedule. Bedtime was of course harder to get him to fall asleep on his own than nap time. He cried at bedtime for 3-4 days before he was able to fall asleep on his own at night. After lots of changes and making sure we stuck with the changes.... HE DID IT!!! I had my good baby back that slept through the night. Keifer didn't even wake up once for his pacifier in the middle of the night. This was Saturday night the 27th. I was right it took one week and Jason and I were so happy. I wanted to make sure that the good night wasn't a fluke and that he actually was sleeping good again so I decided to give it another week. I took a picture of him every day he slept through the night again. After 7 days I figured it was safe to say he was back and not a fluke.

Look Familar?

Today Keifer is 12 days shy of his 4 month birthday. He has still been fitting in some newborn clothes but I have been putting him in 0-3 month clothes cause I'm ready to move on. You probably recognize this outfit from our 4th of July weekend. I bought this for Keifer to wear on his first Independence day but it swallowed him. So today was the first day he had worn it since that weekend. He looks so cute in it and better late than never so here is his Independence day outfit.

Just a Saturday Morning

This Saturday Jason and I had some running around we were going to go do. While Keifer and I were waiting on Jason to finish getting ready to go Keifer started talking. I love spending every day with him and I'm so blessed that I get to hear him talk everyday. This is just a normal day for us. Today Keifer was telling me what he wanted to do today and where he wanted to go. : )

Daddy makes me laugh

Keifer talks and smiles a lot but here lately he has actually been laughing. It is the cutest thing you have ever heard and Jason and I find ourselves making the silliest faces and some of the craziest noises to just hear him laugh one more time. This day Dad surprised Keifer of coming home during the day for a few minutes to say hello. Jason was making silly noises to make him laugh and at first I just took pictures of him laughing until Jason asked, "Why aren't you recording this?" Good question so I got out my phone to share this precious moment.

August 21st

One year ago today Jason and I were enjoying the wonderful beaches of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I will never forget this day as long as I live. Our hotel room had a balcony that went out onto the roof of one of the restaurants on the beach. You could walk on the roof and see a lot more than just sitting on the balcony. When I woke up at 5:30 and found out I was pregnant there was no way I could go back to sleep. (even though I was exhausted) I wanted Jason to wake up too so we could talk but he was still very tired and had NO PROBLEM going back to sleep after I told him the results. I peeked out the curtains to our balcony and saw that the sun was just starting to rise so I decided to hop on the roof and watch the sun come up over the ocean. The beach was completely empty expect the hotel worker setting up chairs and an arch for a wedding that day. I just looked and thought about our wedding day and how far we had come. I prayed to God thanking Him for answering our prayer and asking for guidance and wisdom as I embarked on this new journey. I felt like I went to Mexico one person and came back as another. I left my childhood and days of a young married couple behind. I was coming back as a Mom and a woman.

My view from the roof (this is not that morning)
The wedding that I was watching the workers set up
Jason finally woke up and we went for breakfast then just enjoyed laying out at the pool all day. It was our last day there and I wanted to enjoy it but the truth was I couldn't wait to get back and tell everyone we were having our first baby...

This past year has gone by so fast and it has been so dear to my heart. I look forward to many more years and I'm surprised at how far we've come. I have the best husband in the world and Keifer has a wonderful Daddy. I couldn't have asked God for any better of a son. I can't believe not only how far we've come but how far Keifer has come...

4 weeks old (Not Keifer, but you get the idea)
Exactly one year later!

Leaving an imprint....

Yes Keifer actually left an imprint on himself! He was taking a nap this morning and when he woke up I saw a huge red spot on his leg! I was freaked out thinking he got some kind of rash then I saw it.... I laughed so hard. He had fell asleep with his left foot on his right leg. I was so amazed at how perfect of an indentation it was that I had to take some pictures!
