Peas Peas and more Peas!

After learning apples were phase 2 foods I did some more research and looked into what Keifer could eat that would be easy on his stomach. I learned that you are suppose to start with Prunes, Peaches, Apricots, or Peas. With Peaches and Apricots being out of season I tried prunes. Keifer seemed to be ok with them and he ate them for a week but after him not giving much of a reaction I tried peas. Those without a shadow of a doubt I know he loves!!! Jason recorded these 2 videos. They are so cute : )

Applesauce

I waited until Keifer was 6 months old to introduce "solids" into his diet. A week before Keifer turned 6 months old I went and bought a baby food puree maker. The first thing I tried with him was pureed Apples. He made some really funny faces and seemed to really like eating like a "big person" However we learned the hard way two days later that apples are not suppose to be fed until phase 2 foods which is 8-9 months. We had two days of screaming and constipation so needless to say he hasn't had them since!

I was the only one home with him while feeding so I had to set the camera up to record and unfortunately I laid it on it's side and now the video is on it's side but just cock your head and enjoy!!!

Happy Half a Year!!!!

It just amazes me how 6 months is such a short time but Keifer has changed and grown light-years in that short amount of time! I can't help but think back to the night we brought him home and how tiny he was. It was so surreal holding this beautiful little boy that was all mine. All I could think was how happy I was and how I wanted to do right by him. After all he was counting on Jason and I to be his sole providers and teach him everything he need to know. I had so many nightmares about going days and forgetting to feed him. (Which thankfully never came true lol) Now all of those worries seemed so silly. We got into a routine and God gives you instinct to know what they need.
In his short 6 months Keifer has a little over doubled his weight since he was born. He weighs 13lbs. 8oz. and is 28 inches long. He is rolling ALL over the place and sits up on his own pretty good. He is still in size 0-3 months clothes and wears size 1 diapers. He is sleeping 11-12 hours at night before waking up to eat and takes 2 naps a day from 1.5-2 hours long. He still goes to bed at 7:00pm. He reaches out for you when he wants you to hold him and we are starting to learn his personality. Which is a BLAST!!! One thing I've defiantly noticed about Keifer is he is very alert to his surroundings. He looks around like he assessing the situation and watches people like he is trying to read them. Not just anyone can make him smile, he likes to study people and try to figure them out. We are so blessed to be his parents and have had so much fun getting to know him!

Dallas Arboretum

November 7th is my youngest sister's birthday and this year it fell on a Monday. Which was perfect because she doesn't have work or school that day and I of course was available. She had been talking for weeks how she wanted to go to the Dallas Arboretum and every day we tried the weather or Keifer didn't corporate. This time of the year they had a pumpkin patch and LaDonna loves nature so it was the perfect place to surprise her for her birthday. I told her just to get dressed and I picked her up early in the morning and we headed to Dallas. Going on a Monday was perfect because there was hardly anyone there and we had time to see everything. Keifer, as alert as he always is, loved it. He sat in his stroller and stared at all the colors and reached for the trees and flowers as we passed. It was a quiet and relaxing morning.

Keifer's First Halloween

With Keifer being so young and his bedtime being a little after the time it gets dark we didn't get a chance to do a whole lot this year. My Mom, Dad, and two sisters came over and we grilled hamburgers for dinner. After dinner we got Keifer's costume on and took him around the block to visit a few neighbors. All of the neighbors ooooed and awwwed at how cute he was and how cute his costume was.

Carving Pumpkins

Mine and Jason's first date was October 25th so one of the very first things we did together was carve a pumpkin. That year we carved a Penguin and every October since then we have carved a pumpkin and we never do the "normal face," we carve pictures. This year was going to be no different, just better because we had Keifer with us this time! My sister LaDonna always carves a pumpkin at Halloween and decided to come over and carve her's with us. We got our pumpkins and headed outside. Before we started we used the pumpkins for a photo op.
As you can tell he was excited to get started!!!
Step One: Cutting the top

Step Two: Getting all the seeds out

Keifer just enjoyed being outside playing and watching us do all the hard work

Step Three: "Pinning" the picture into the pumpkin

Almost done, carving the picture...

All finished now time to light them up and call it a night!

Lions, Tigers and bears... Oh my!

Actually just Lions! I wanted Keifer to be an owl for Halloween however I had a hard time finding him a costume. Not just an owl costume but any costume that is. Keifer is still in size 0-3 months and the smallest size I could find was 6 months. Not too mention the cheapest I could find was $50 and I couldn't justify that money for a few hours. Since I just recently starting to sew I thought I would give it a try of making Keifer's costume. The easiest thing I could think of to make and my next choice to an owl was a lion so I spent $12 on fabric and accessories and got to work! I was so excited with how it turned out and very proud of my first attempt.
The Saturday before Halloween, Van Alstyne had trick or treating set up down town at all the businesses. So Jason and I loaded Keifer up and headed into town.

He liked playing with his fuzzies!
We were meeting up with my sister in law Abby, other sister in law Amy, her husband Caleb and cousins Savannah and Hudson. It turned out to be cute because Keifer and Hudson were both lions. We didn't plan this but little Savannah was Dorthy. I had so much fun with Keifer for his first Halloween and look forward to many more!
